Letters on the Improvement of the Mind (1773) is a conduct manual by Hester Chapone, who was one of the original "Bluestockings". Originally written for her niece, it sets out Chapone's ideas about how young women should educate themselves, encouraging her female readers to be disciplined and methodical in their studies. Hugely popular, it influenced Mary Wollstonecraft and the book and its author are mentioned in several 19th-century novels.
