300 million years ago all earth's major landmasses were joined together in one supercontinent. This had been suggested by European geographers almost as soon as the coastlines of west Africa and South America were mapped, and is supported by the presence of fossils in once-adjacent regions of India, Antarctica and Australia as well as the relatively recent discovery of Plate Tectonics. The location of modern cities helps to show what these landmasses would later become.
